2017 Queen Elizabeth II Strike on the Day '200th Anniversary' Gold Sovereign

Struck on 1st July 2017 this special on the day striking celebrates the 200th Anniversary of the the modern sovereign first struck in 1817 the coin was reborn as the embodiment of the newly introduced Gold Standard. Those first coins featured Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon design, so highly regarded that it still appears on The Sovereign, 200 years on. This year, we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the ‘modern’ Sovereign with a celebratory design.
