1848 Queen Victoria Shield Reverse Sovereign SMALL HEAD - NGC AU50
Victoria (1837–1901), Sovereign, 1848, extremely rare Small Head type, second larger Young Head left, raised W.W. on truncation, reverse crowned ‘normal’ shield within wreath, edge milled (Marsh 31A; S.3852). An exceptionally rare variety, seldom encountered in any grade and particularly difficult to find in this condition. This example is bettered by just three examples graded by NGC.
Reverse :The Ensigns Armorial within a plain shield and surmounted by a crown. A branch of laurel is shown on each side of the shield. At the bottom the Thistle, Rose and Shamrock are placed with a small flower stop each side.
