1838 Queen Victoria Shield Reverse Sovereign AUNC / STUNNING

The 1838 Queen Victoria Sovereign is rare in its own right, with good Very Fine examples commanding prices of £3,000–£4,000. This particular coin, however, is in an entirely different league, being as close to a genuinely Uncirculated example as we have encountered to date.

The coin exhibits little to no discernible wear, with beautifully preserved, almost proof-like fields displaying only minor hairlines. While many surviving high-grade examples exhibit somewhat duller or less reflective surfaces, this exceptional coin stands out for its remarkable freshness and overall quality.

The only blemish to an otherwise outstanding example is a small spot at approximately 7 o'clock on the obverse, accompanied by some minor localised marking. This is confined to a very small area and does little to detract from the coin's exceptional appearance.

An exceptionally well-preserved example of this rare early Victorian Sovereign, with a quality of surface and level of detail seldom encountered.

Obverse : Young head of Victoria to left. Hair bound with double fillet and collected up into a Bun behind. Date below truncation with WW.(William Wyon) in relief of truncation.

Reverse :The Ensigns Armorial within a plain shield and surmounted by a crown. A branch of laurel is shown on each side of the shield. At the bottom the Thistle, Rose and Shamrock are placed with a small flower stop each side.
