HM Queen Elizabeth II 95th Birthday

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

95 Years of Heart and Devotion

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, was born 21 April 1926 in Mayfair London, first child of the later to be King George VI and mother Queen Elizabeth. She ascended to the throne on 6th February 1952 upon the death of her father George VI who had been ill for some while. The new Queen who last saw her father waving goodbye just a few days before as she embarked on a Commonwealth tour in which she took his place, was informed of the news while in Kenya. The Coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953, estimated to have been watched by a live TV audience of around 20 million.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch and this year 2021 sees a number of milestones for the Monarchy. We have put together a special selection of coins issued to celebrate this momentous occasion and other birthday issues. Not only does this year see the Queen's 95th birthday, but also the 100th birthday of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, born on June 10th 1921.

As this much loved public figure reaches another remarkable milestone. The Royal Mint we are delighted to release a commemorative coin for the occasion, and to wish Her Majesty every happiness as royal history is made, acclaimed artist Christopher Hobbs has turned to her love of flowers for inspiration, his design approved by The Queen herself. As this is a more personal occasion, the artist has filled the classical wreath with natural rather than heraldic roses, with each one different to the next.
