HM Queen Elizabeth II 95th Birthday
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
95 Years of Heart and Devotion
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, was born 21 April 1926 in Mayfair London, first child of the later to be King George VI and mother Queen Elizabeth. She ascended to the throne on 6th February 1952 upon the death of her father George VI who had been ill for some while. The new Queen who last saw her father waving goodbye just a few days before as she embarked on a Commonwealth tour in which she took his place, was informed of the news while in Kenya. The Coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953, estimated to have been watched by a live TV audience of around 20 million.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch and this year 2021 sees a number of milestones for the Monarchy. We have put together a special selection of coins issued to celebrate this momentous occasion and other birthday issues. Not only does this year see the Queen's 95th birthday, but also the 100th birthday of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, born on June 10th 1921.
In 2021, Her Majesty The Queen celebrates the latest milestone in a remarkable life as she becomes the first British monarch to reach a 95th birthday. To mark this historic event and personal achievement for The Queen, The Royal Mint has struck a range of official United Kingdom coins. Featuring two new designs, all the coins bear the inscription ‘My Heart and My Devotion’, referencing a promise The Queen made in her 1957 Christmas speech and has kept ever since.
The 2021 Proof Sovereign is a unique offering, the sovereign contains a crown, with the digits '95' below, celebrating Her Majesty's 95th Birthday in 2021. Along with this special mark, the sovereign has been struck with just 95 grain mills, compared to the normal 108. This is the only time the milling has been changed since the finer milling of the 1957 sovereign which contained 168 grain mills.
Her Majesty The Queen has celebrated many landmark moments during her long and eventful reign birthdays, jubilees and wedding anniversaries and we have enjoyed each happy occasion with her. Now we celebrate with the Royal Family once again as Queen Elizabeth II becomes the first British monarch to reach a 90th birthday. As this much loved public figure reaches another remarkable milestone. The Royal Mint we are delighted to release a commemorative coin for the occasion, and to wish Her Majesty every happiness as royal history is made, acclaimed artist Christopher Hobbs has turned to her love of flowers for inspiration, his design approved by The Queen herself. As this is a more personal occasion, the artist has filled the classical wreath with natural rather than heraldic roses, with each one different to the next.
In 2006, the people of Britain and the Commonwealth hung out the bunting once more as Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the occasion of her 80th birthday. Tributes poured in from her family, politicians and dignitaries and her loyal subjects - tens of thousands of people sent cards and emails through her official website to wish her well. Each royal anniversary is a special occasion and a chance for the country to celebrate. Remember those happy times when the nation united as one with this magnificent commemorative coin, featuring the stunning trumpets and banners design by Danuta Solowiel-Wedderburn.
This Gold Proof £5 coin (aka Quintuple Sovereign, or Crown) was issued to mark the 70th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. 2,500 coins were produced by the Royal Mint for the occasion. The coin was one of the last to use the third portrait of Elizabeth II, as designed by Raphael Maklouf. The reverse by Avril Vaughan, shows a representation of Windsor Castle with five flag poles, two holding forked pennants with anniversary dates '1926' and '1996', the other flags being the Royal Arms, the Union flag and Our Personal Flag.
