1850 Queen Victoria Shield Reverse Sovereign - Rare Roman 'I'
A lovely example of a 1850 Victoria Shield reverse sovereign with Roman 'I' in date. You will also note that this appears to be struck over the digit'1'. This example is similar to one sold at the Bentley Collection 2012/13.
Obverse : Young head of Victoria to left. Hair bound with double fillet and collected up into a Bun behind. Date below truncation with WW.(William Wyon) in relief of truncation.
Reverse :The Ensigns Armorial within a plain shield and surmounted by a crown. A branch of laurel is shown on each side of the shield. At the bottom the Thistle, Rose and Shamrock are placed with a small flower stop each side.
